But soft a Question breaks…

Is poetry dead?  I see and read many offerings but finding poetry has been disappointing. I know what you may say: there are plenty of poetry sites, even here. I’m not talking about loosely gathered prose, I’m talking about poetry.

po·et·ry  ˈpōətrē/
noun
  1. literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature.

Maybe I’m a bit out of touch but I really enjoy poems that have rhythm, structure, and GASP rhyme. I revel in the passion and craft of concise thought and well penned lines. To convey humanity within the constraints of poetry requires the reader to think, feel, contemplate, ponder, and and spend energy.

So please dear reader, if you find the poets, send me a map.

  1. I used to read a lot of poetry when I was younger and even penned a few myself. Somewhere in a journal I still have them. Much of today’s poetic writing is closer to the lyrics of a song than any of the traditional poetry in days long past. If I happen upon any I’ll be sure to pass it along.
